What do I need to KNOW?

What can I expect each month?

We meet on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Tuesday every month from September through May. We take a short break for holiday, and there are some months where we skip a different week (1st week in January, sprint break in March, etc). We try to have one special event each month (usually on weekends), such as service projects, lock-ins, multi-troop events, or camping trips. Please RSVP on AHGfamily – no response will be considered an RSVP of no. Note: Overnight Events may ONLY be attended by registered members. Siblings (except for nursing infants) and unregistered adults are NOT permitted.

How to earn a Badge:

  • A girl must complete all of the requirements in the handbook for her Level plus:
    • 1 additional requirement for Tenderheart (TH)
    • 2 additional requirements for Explorer (EX)
    • 3 additional requirements for Pioneer (PI) or Patriot (PA)
  • Badgework completed at unit meetings will be recorded by the Unit Leader or Advancement Chair. For requirements completed towards badges that the unit has started together, the girl should present that to the Unit Leader for review.
  • Paying full annual dues OR participating in the fundraiser at the minimum requested amount allows the troop to pay for all badges completed at troop meetings or at any other events attended as a troop (spring camporee, badge workshops, summer camp, etc). Badges completed outside of troop time will be charged to the family at the current AHGstore price. She will need to fill out the “Badge Completion Form” and schedule a brief conversation with a troop leader for reviewing what she accomplished and learned; pictures are much appreciated for verification.

How to earn Service Stars:

  • Hours per service star:
    • Tenderheart – 5hrs
    • Explorer – 10hrs
    • Pioneer – 15hrs
    • Patriot – 20hrs
  • Service Hours completed at Troop Events will be logged into AHGfamily. Hours completed on your own will need to be logged by you into AHGfamily. From your daughter’s profile page, click “Service” tab, then under “Add Service Time,” enter the applicable information. These hours will be reviewed and stars will be awarded as applicable. A unit leader or board member may contact you if they have questions about the service. (Paper Tracking Log: TH p305, EX p313, PI p321, PA p322)
  • Keep in mind that service benefiting her family or our AHG troop will not count towards service hours (an exception is for AHG sponsored events where other people are invited, such as community outreach events or joint events with our partner Trail Life troop). She also may not be compensated (monetary or gift) for time counted towards service hours.

How to earn a Sports Pin (p 214 TH/EX, p 282 PI/PA)

  • Sports pins are earned when a girl completes all of the requirements for a certain sport. The Sports Pin is one of the few items that is transferred from Uniform Level to the next Uniform Level, provided the girl is still participating in the sport.
  • Sports Pins are tracked in AHGfamily under the “Sports” tab on a girl’s profile.

How to earn a Faith Award (AHG’s Faith Award Program Overview)

The Faith Award is required to earn the Level Award. Depending on your preference, your daughter can earn a B.Y. Faith Award or a Catholic award. All troop-wide faith activities will align with our charter org, The Park Christian Community Church. Our troop typically offers at least one opportunity to earn faith awards each year (either a faith-related badge and/or a special event).

Level Awards

  • Each level has a level award associated with it. Girls will move to the next level based on age, but only girls who complete all of the appropriate requirements will receive their level award.
    • Tenderhear “Sacagawea” – TH/EX Handbook p 304
    • Explorer “Ida Scudder” – TH/EX Handbook p 311
    • Pioneer “Harriet Tubman” – PI/PA Handbook p 312
    • Patriot “Abigail Adams” – PI/PA Handbook p 316
  • A Unit Leader or a Board Member will communicate with families in January or before about your daughter’s desire to earn the level award if she is eligible for it. Note the Pioneer and Patriot Level Award will require extra planning.

Applying Badges, Service Stars, Sports Pin, and Event Patches

Pathfinders

Pathfinders cannot earn badges, service stars, or sports pins. Instead, girls receive a special Pathfinder necklace and have the opportunity to earn beads for attending meetings, memorizing Bible verses, and completing activities to earn their Fanny Crosby Level Award.

When will my daughter receive badges, sports pins, event patches, and service stars?

We have two Awards Ceremonies per Program Year held traditionally in January and May. Please refer to the calendar on AHGfamily. These are family events where siblings, parents, and other family members are invited to attend.
